Woody feels his life is fine just as it is – until he meets Madalina, the heart-stoppingly beautiful Romanian waitress at the yacht club café. Woody falls hard for Madalina – hook, line, and sinker. But the exotic Madalina has relegated Woody to the “cute” and “sweet” category, and seems to have set her sights on the son of a wealthy land developer. Woody, knowing Madalina is out of his league, shrugs off his day-dream of the two of them together.
When a new club member Fred Sage admits to having no idea how to pilot the massive new yacht he just purchased, Woody is resigned to spending his afternoon off teaching Fred the basics. But Fred not only overestimated his sailing prowess, he also misjudged his stomach’s tolerance for the sea. While Fred sleeps off his Dramamine, Woody is left with orders to catch the fish dinner Fred’s fiancée is expecting.
Woody catches a fish all right. A forty pound talking tuna who claims to be Raymond Prince, used car dealer extraordinaire. Raymond’s wife didn’t take kindly to his particular brand of extracurricular activities, so she cursed him and turned him into a talking tuna. In exchange for his freedom, “the prince” is willing to grant Woody’s every wish. Woody sets the Prince free and passes on the wishes, but later reconsiders when it occurs to him that this could be a way to woo and win the fair Madalina. But Woody soon finds himself in over his head and the new poster boy for the phrase “be careful what you wish for”.
HOOKED is based on the Brother’s Grimm fable THE FISHERMAN AND HIS WIFE. Author Jane May has spun this classic into a rollicking, laugh-filled modern-day fairytale. Smart, sensible, down-to-earth Woody is memorable as the hero who learns a valuable lesson. “The Prince” and Madalina are likewise perfectly suited to their roles as the magic fish and grasping beauty. This lively spoof is a fun choice for fans of romantic comedy.
