SUMMER BREAK by Bonnie Dee
High school is over and friends Eric, Josh, and Brianne are all preparing for the rest of their lives. Eric works a dead end job and stays with his druggie brother. Josh and Brianne are officially a couple, but with them planning on going to separate colleges things are changing. Josh has already left in order to attend a Young Leaders Convention. Brianne’s left to her own devices and she’s determined to make it a summer to remember. The only trouble is her plans could ruin the threesome’s friendship - or may just take them to a new level.
This story portrays the immaturity and insecurity that’s so prevalent with young people. I really enjoyed getting to know Eric and Brianne and wondering about what will happen when Josh returns. Bonnie Dee makes adolescents’ experimentation much more exciting than I remember.
SUMMER’S PROMISE by Jayelle Drewry
Since her kids are spending the summer with her ex-husband and his new wife, Delilah Jaynes has the summer all to herself. She used to find comfort in food but after a nasty comment from her ex she’s learned that there’s satisfaction in working out and taking care of yourself. John Knowles has had his eye on Delilah since she first started coming to the gym but she’s turned down every single one of his requests for a date. Imagine his surprise when she actually says “yes.”
I loved this story. There’s something so inspiring about Delilah’s determination to better herself and John’s pursuit of her really made this a memorable story. Jayelle Drewry captures the emotions involved with starting a new relationship after divorce.
SUN KISSED by Rusty Wicks
Bess loves her job as a language tutor to two young boys in Egypt. During one of her afternoon’s out, she purchases a peridot ring which the vendor warns her is powerful but she doesn’t believe in all that hocus pocus. So what is the cause of her sudden erotic dreams. Sure her employer has her hormones in overdrive but her dreams and reality seem to be blending. Can the ring truly have magical powers or is it that her fantasies about Clay are finally becoming reality?
Rusty Wicks finals out the HOT SUMMER NIGHTS anthology with a smoldering tale set in an exotic setting. I loved the interplay between Bess and Clay and how the dreams seemed to be extensions of their interactions. The mystical element associated with the ring really kept my attention and kept me guessing as to what would happen.
If the weather isn’t quite hot enough for you then you just may want to pick up a copy of HOT SUMMER NIGHTS and indulge yourself in these stories which take place during this carefree time of year. Each of the contributing authors tells impassioned tales that take stage at varying stages of life. I love holiday themed books and summertime always seems like such a wild reckless time that I have to confess that short of sending the chatterbox child back to school escaping reality by reading sexy stories that reflect my own fantasies is simply perfect.
