Mandy Helmuth has come to visit her grandparents on Huckleberry Hill and to assist her BFF Kristina get over her broken heart. Mandy always likes to assist people even when they don't want her support. Mandy has never liked Noah Mischler but she can't avoid him since her grandparents are always having him do odd jobs for them.

Noah Mischler likes to be left alone so no one will know about his alcoholic father and the way Noah has to work so hard to keep a roof over his father and his head. When Mandy confronts him about breaking her friend's heart, he tells her to mind her own business and leave him alone. Of course, Mandy can't do that as she sees Noah as someone she can help.

When Mandy's grandparents decide to do some matchmaking for the four weeks Mandy is visiting, it makes for some hilarious moments with all the tests the suitors are put through. Mandy doesn't want to hurt her grandparents' feelings so she goes along with the ridiculous stuff her grandmother does, such as giving each boy a knitted potholder. The only person Mandy wants to get to know is Noah but that isn't going to happen the way he shuts her out.

Mandy decides she needs to get some help for Noah's father which leads to nothing but trouble. This story is a cheerful look at the workings of an Amish community and the reaffirming of beliefs in community and God. I loved the ways the grandparents take it upon themselves to hunt up single men and present them to their granddaughter in all different manners. I laughed at some of the descriptions of the boys' attributes, such as pretty teeth and nine-toed, as a reason for dating them. I cried along with Mandy about Noah's heartache for his father's plight as an alcoholic. Alcoholism amongst the Amish is something I never imagined because their beliefs are so strong.

I am becoming a great fan of Jennifer Beckstrand's books and her humorous and vibrant characters. I have enjoyed all my trips to Huckleberry Hill and the mischief the characters get into. I give this book 5 Blue Ribbons on Romance Junkies' website because I love learning all the nuances in Amish beliefs and getting to know these very colorful characters. Adding in alcoholism is a very different twist.
