Gypsy Amy Burns has lost it! That is, she has lost her mystical power: Maddie, the voice that lets Amy know the name of any person’s One True Love. Now Amy is on a mission to find her voice and reclaim it. That mission leads her to Les Fleurs and Chef James LaChance, one of the best French chefs in Philadelphia. James is sexy and in control of his kitchen but he also makes Amy feel things she would rather not feel. Amy is set to run when they share a sizzling, passionate kiss and suddenly James has a new dish on his hands.
James LaChance gets his inspiration for his menu from women, so when just one simple kiss with Amy inspires an utterly delicious and tasty salad, James knows he has to see what other tidbits he can create with Amy. That is easier said than done however since Amy is determined to find her voice and she is being very cagey about what has brought her to Philadelphia.
Amy will find the woman who stole her voice, even if she has to use that woman’s fifteen-year-old son, Troy. But as she grows closer to James, Amy has to decide what she wants more: the potential of true love, or the voice? Because as Amy knows, once she accepts her one true love, she will lose any chance with Maddie forever and the voice will leave her permanently.
Amy has been causing trouble since Diana Holquist’s first book, MAKE ME A MATCH, so it is with some relief and trepidation that I first began this story. After all, for a woman who causes havoc wherever she goes, how can she truly fall in love? Fortunately, there is a lot more to Amy than it first appears. Amy is lonely and confused. Maddie has been her one constant since she was a child so losing that connection is incredibly hard for her. Entering James’ chaotic world relieves some of that loneliness while also showing her a new chance at happiness. Amy is sassy, she is sly and intelligent, and she is very determined but she is also falling deeply in love for the first time ever. It is very interesting watching her work through those conflicting emotions.
James has been inspired by several women in the past, but never quite like Amy. The passion they share is pure fire and sizzle. But how can he show Amy that he wants something more, that he feels like he has finally found his resting place? Both of these characters have lead rather difficult lives, in different ways, but that only helps to draw them together. Their chemistry is phenomenal and the food descriptions leap off the pages!
Diana Holquist’s HUNGRY FOR MORE is a feast for romance readers. Definitely give Amy and James a chance, you will not regret it.
