After receiving the devastating news that she isn’t being promoted, Antoinette decides to forgo the staff meeting, where everybody will be fawning over Camille, the woman who’d received the promotion, and visit a new grill that recently opened right around the corner. She definitely intends to give the bar more than a glancing inspection. A few shots of scotch could go a long ways toward numbing her bruised ego.
The grill is named "DreamTime Bar and Grill" and Antoinette has no idea how appropriate that name is until the sinfully good looking bartender asks her what she wants and she is forced to admit that she no longer knows what she wants. The bartender serves her a creamy chocolate-looking drink in a martini glass and suggests she go home to sleep. As she sleeps off the effects of the disappointing day and drink concoction she’d been served , Antoinette ponders the question "What do I want?" The next thing she knows, she wakes up naked on a beautiful island called Desirata and the bartender is responsible for her present condition - only he isn’t a bartender at all, he’s a daimon (half demon, half human) named Mercury. Will Antoinette rediscover what’s important in her life and what she truly wants?
Adrianna Dane’s I WANT is a fast paced look at the life of a woman who’s whole life revolves around making it to the top of the business world. She has no social life and no friends. Finding herself in the relaxed and erotic paradise is a shock but one that she desperately needs to reevaluate what she truly wants for herself. I love how Antoinette evolves from an abrasive businesswoman to a gentler, more caring human being who understands that there’s more to life than what she has. Mercury is an unexpected treat. He takes great delight in just watching Antoinette discover what makes her happy. Wouldn’t it be great if only there were more ‘men’ like that?
This is one of six stories that make up Amber Quill’s new DESIRATA collection. They’re all fantasy tales that center around a series of mystical islands which only those who truly need them seem to find.
