The geek and the high school cheerleader. Sound interesting? Read on. It’s the tenth high school reunion and Nikky the cheerleader once again comes face to face with Ian the geek. She hasn’t a clue as to the identify of this hunk who’s without a name badge.

Nikky doesn’t want to be there but her friend Kaity is on the prowl for a rich man. What will it hurt? After all, it’s only for one night.

Ian has looked forward to this night for quite some time. He’s on a mission and it includes taking Nikky to places she’s never been sexually.

At first glance she doesn’t recognize the god who stands in front of her. She only knows that he makes “Hugh Jackman look like Larry the Cable Guy.” Rather than tell her who he is, he begins to quote the Pythagorean theorem. She screams and throws herself into his arms.

During high school, he was her best friend. He never turned her down when she asked for help with school work. All the while he fantasized about her and ways he would make love to her. Unfortunately, he was Ian the geek and she was the ever popular cheerleader who managed to hook any man she wanted.

To Ian’s way of thinking, they took what they wanted from her and never gave her anything back. He will use this night to give her all the love and passion she’s missed.

Can one night with no strings attached lead to anything else? And what about the injury Ian touched on but didn’t give details? She’s curious. She’s also very skeptical. To her way of thinking, Nikky plus men equals disaster.

Reese Gabriel has stepped away from his grittier stories with IAN’S WAY. I had to read it a second time to make sure I caught all the nuances and the underlying love these two people feel for one another. How many of us have gone to our high school reunions in hopes of finding “the perfect mate?” That certain someone probably didn’t exist in high school but what about now?

The gentleness with which Ian treats Nikky is endearing, albeit a little too well thought out at first. He’s trying very hard not to come off like he’s making up for all the bad things that happened to her at the hands of other men and she’s offended that he is and befuddled about her thoughts on the whole evening.

The secondary characters in this story were fantastic. Her best friend, Kaity, and his friend, Nathan, are the perfect best friends for our heroine and hero. I think there’s a story in there somewhere for them. You have to read it closely to find out.

This is definitely a keeper, a must read and re-read. Thanks, Mr. Gabriel, for such a wonderfully written love story.
