Lady Alethea Vaughn Channing is dreaming about a man. However, this is no ordinary man, and these are no ordinary dreams. She has grown up dreaming of this man without ever meeting him or even knowing his name. She has seen him in visions and dreams since she was five years old. Although the visions do not come often, she feels she knows this man rather well despite her inability to give him a name. Her current vision, however, is not like the others and compels her to travel to London to meet this man so she can warn him of his impending death. She enlists the help of her uncle, Iago Vaughn, to introduce her to the man who now has a name – Hartley Greville. Hartley is a rake, has more notches on his belt than Alethea cares to count, and there is no guarantee that he won’t think she is off her rocker, but Alethea still has to warn him. She quickly involves herself in a scandal that not only threatens Hartley’s life, but threatens her life and her family’s lives as well. She has no illusions about a man loving her when she has what appear to be the powers of a witch, but the chemistry between her and Hartley is undeniable. Hartley’s potential murderess, though, is not going to let someone like Alethea stand in her way of becoming marchioness.
Hannah Howell takes us into a magical world where visions and healing gifts are not the witchcraft and satanical curses London society makes them out to be. Lady Alethea is a sweet, yet strong woman, and Howell molds her character into a perfect match for playboy Hartley Greville.
