Max is a hard-nosed businessman who has been receiving threatening letters from an anonymous source, promising retribution if Max goes through with the merger of his multimillion-dollar company with another. Until one day, the threatening letter is deliberately sent to a woman he doesn't even know. When he contacts Layla, the computer programmer informs him that she can take care of herself and has no interest in his protection. Layla is a mature, 50-something divorcee who has no interest in letting another man into her life to muck it up. She can tell Max is one of those corporate guys who only think about business, and she's had enough of that in her life. She's more of a jeans-and-sandals-at-work kind of gal, than a 3-piece business suit person like Max.

After agreeing to meet both Layla and Max realize that they are attracted to each other, but that they couldn't be more different: Layla with her liberal, easygoing attitude; Max with his one-track mind for business and staid manner. Layla eventually agrees to work with Max temporarily, both at his company and having his security team as her bodyguards, just until the stalker is caught. As the two get to know one another, they realize that their attraction is quite formidable and that they may not be able to just walk away from each other once the stalker is caught. But before they can move forward, Max will have to shed his habit of dating younger woman AKA arm candy for very short periods of time, and Layla will have to overcome her prejudice of businessmen, as well as her own fear of commitment.

IF NOT FOR YOU contains healthy doses of excitement, suspense, romance, humor—everything you need for a great romantic adventure/suspense story. I found the characters heartwarming in their sincerity and realistic in their emotions and reactions. Max's character really grows and a profound way, as does Layla's character. They are both characters the reader will identify with and understand. I loved all the secondary characters as well, and could not have been happier with the outcome of this story. The suspense had me guessing all the way through, and I truly could not put this one down until I read every last word. It's really one of those books that just make you feel good! The storyline is compelling and keeps you from putting the book down. A great read!
