Clara McCallum does not have the time or the courage to deal with a breast cancer diagnosis. She has a movie to make and a life to live. She is stuck with having to deal with it, though, and it isn’t making her life easy. A soap opera actress, Clara has the opportunity to break into a major movie with a starring role set in the 1940s about a group of men who sacrificed their lives for their country. When she steps on the 1940s old-style locomotive, she is in present day New York. When she steps off, she is in 1941 – with no medical help and no obvious way of getting back to where she needs to be. Then she meets real life Jed Landry, the object of her affections in her movie, who makes the decision to return back even harder to make. Can she even make it back to her world so she can receive the medical treatment she needs to battle her cancer? Does she really want to go back to the present day and deal with all the stress and pressure? Christmas is coming and Clara McCallum may be poised to receive the best gift a girl could ever have.

Wendy Markham really hits home with this novel. She brings Clara McCallum to life with an issue many women today face or can empathize with. Her descriptions of what Clara is going through tear at your heart and make you long for her to be able to find relief from what she is going through. Jed Landry is the perfect 1940s gentleman who meets a very liberated and oddly dressed New Yorker who doesn’t appear to have all her wits about her, but pulls at his heart strings. The story is strong, the characters are strong and this is a wonderful book to read around the Christmas holidays.
