Lucy Lawson is beyond frustrated. She was perfectly happy with her friendship with Seb as is, but then the man went and shaved his head and now her every erotic thought is consumed with him. They’ve been best friends for years, now in the blink of an eye, everything’s changed. She’s in love with her best friend and well aware that telling him could destroy their friendship, but keeping silent any longer just isn’t feasible. If she thought having to confess her love to Seb was going to be difficult and embarrassing, it’s nothing compared to learning that he doesn’t feel the same way about her.
Sebastian ‘Seb’ Blackford loves Lucy – as a friend! It’s been an extremely comfortable friendship with them meeting often and sharing good food and conversation. He’s recently begun dating someone he fully intends to continue seeing, so when Lucy drops the bomb “I love you” he’s completely caught off guard. He’s never considered her as anything more than a friend but after hearing her confession and her description of her erotic fantasies Seb’s finding it very hard to ignore his own reaction to her.
Lucy’s horrified that’s she’s confessed everything to Seb only to learn that not only does he not feel the same but he’s involved with someone else already. From past experience and watching Lucy with others Seb knows that she’ll cut him out of her life, just like she has others who’ve hurt her, if he leaves her to stew in her own humiliation, so confrontation is the only way to go. As with any heated confrontation comes an intense emotional reaction – and they end up in the bathroom and neither of them is able to resist acting on the attraction broiling between them. Unfortunately Seb’s still confused about what this means for their future, and while Lucy understands that he needs time, she knows that their relationship is going to change but whether it’s for the better or a good-bye is still in question.
There’s something riveting about a good friend to lover story and Jess Dee’s MORE THAN FRIENDS certainly delivers in that aspect. What I especially loved about this story is Lucy’s brutal honesty when it comes to her feelings for Seb. There’s a shock factor to it that just makes the whole story more intense and gets the reader’s heart pounding. Seb’s loveable simply because he is such a good friend – and while it does take him some time to recognize that the dynamics in their relationship have changed he remains honest – even when it’s difficult. I love Ms. Dee’s stories because the characters are easy to relate to, the storylines are realistic and emotionally compelling, and the sex is scalding hot. In short, they’re simply delightful to read and always leave the reader anticipating her next release.
