Stella Greco lives life on her terms, right down to her decision to use a sperm bank to fulfill her desire to be a mother. It’s not that she doesn’t want marriage and a happily-ever-after but she’s not willing to wait around for Prince Charming to come knocking on her door either. She works at a local university restoring books and can provide for a child quite nicely. The last thing she expects is for a real Prince Charming to show up on her doorstep but instead of sweeping her off his feet, he’s come to claim his son.
Vasco Montoya regrets his youthful decision to donate sperm. In all fairness it was ten years ago and he’d needed the money but in hindsight, it wasn’t the smartest thing he ever did. He also never expected to become king of Montmajor either. The only upside to his donation is instead of selecting one of the more popular heritages, Vasco wrote in Catalan so his contribution was mostly overlooked – except for one dose which resulted in a son. That child is heir to the throne on Montmajor and Vasco will do whatever he has to in order to be a part of his child’s life.
While sperm banks are supposed to keep everything strictly confidential Vasco used the vast wealth he’s gained through his business ventures to obtain the identity of his child’s mother. If he thought gaining access to Stella’s son, Nicki, would be simple then he’s sadly mistaken. Stella is fiercely protective and not at all impressed with his title and wealth and while Vasco insists that she and Nicki must move to Montmajor, Stella is just as determined that she isn’t moving anywhere. When she loses her job due to budget cuts she agrees to visit Montmajor for a month and she even has to admit to being excited about the opportunity to get her hands on the royal archives. While Stella admits that she believes Vasco and Nicky should spend time together she isn’t exactly comfortable with the situation. Nicky is becoming entirely too attached to Vasco – and so is Stella.
Stella can’t help but fall in love with Vasco and Montmajor is feeling more like home all the time. Trouble is Stella is a happily-ever-after woman and she genuinely wants marriage, but Vasco’s own impressions of marriage are marred by his parents’ relationship. Will Vasco realize that marriage isn’t a fate worse than death before it’s too late?
Jennifer Lewis touches readers’ hearts with her newest release CLAIMING HIS ROYAL HEIR. Stella and Vasco are brought together through odd circumstances but it’s obvious they only want what’s best for Nicki. The attraction between them is intense but there’s also an emotional connection that makes you smile while you imagine their encounters. I really had to admire Stella’s tenacious nature and love that she always puts Nicki’s needs above her own.
Ms. Lewis does an amazing job bringing the Catalan culture to life in this story and I loved the glimpses of the unique language that’s survived through the ages. While the nation of Montmajor might be purely fiction, the Catalan culture is real and quite fascinating (yes I actually did look it up).
