Christa Sommers’ day has gone to hell in a hand basket. First off, she decided to confront her half-sisters about their misappropriated funds that belong to the inn and let them know that she intends to sell Green Mountain Inn. Then the father of her nine-year-old son shows up out of the blue demanding answers – which she isn’t altogether ready to provide. She has more than enough on her mind without having to deal with Mark and his demands but the stubborn man isn’t taking the hint.
Mark Blakefield was shocked when he was shown pictures of the Green Mountain Inn along with its owner and her young son and recognized the woman he’d fallen in love with in college. He never knew what happened to her – one minute she was there, the next she was gone without a trace. Now here she is – and the child is obviously his son. Rather than debate the wisdom of confronting her Mark heads to the inn and straight into a family drama of epic proportions.
Christa doesn’t do confrontations but Peggy and Stella’s freeloading days are over. She’s dropped the bomb and told them that not only is she NOT financing their next vacation, but they’re going to have to get jobs because she’s all done supporting them. She’s taken care of them since the death of their parents but it’s high time they take care of themselves rather than continue to take advantage of Christa. They’ve never appreciated all the sacrifices she’s made for them and Christa’s allowed them to get away with it, but that’s all done. Mark and Christa might be at odds about their relationship and the future of their son, but when it comes to Peggy and Stella’s manipulative ways they’re definitely united.
Janet Lane Walter’s A SECOND SEDUCTION is a heartwarming read with plenty of passion, deceit, redemption and a powerful sense that all will turn out all right in the end. I absolutely adored Christa and Mark who really should have been together all along, but circumstances beyond their control forced a separation. Their son Davy is precocious and enterprising and a testament to how well Christa has done raising him. Her half-sisters fit the villain category perfectly, their greed and sense of self-entitlement is just shocking and I love that Christa and Mark don’t let their lies affect their newfound relationship. There’s plenty of sexual interactions which just reinforces the love between Christa and Mark has never faded despite their years apart. A SECOND SEDUCTION brought a smile to my face from beginning to end and I’m honestly not sure if it was the author’s writing style or the likability of the characters that did it for me, but in either case, this is a sweet read that I’ll definitely be rereading in the future.
