Samantha is none too happy to learn of Nick taking Judge Christiansen's place. The Judge is a man Samantha admired, trusted and loved to work for. She used to admire and trust Nick, until he turned his back on her when Samantha needed him, and his trust, the most. Two years prior, Nick, thinking Samantha leaked valuable information during the biggest investigation of his career, set out to ruin Samantha's. It worked.
When Samantha finds out why they are searching through Judge Christiansen's cases, she's none too pleased. How could they suspect an honest, trustworthy man of being shady? Samantha figures that Nick would be more than happy to find out she's in the middle of something shady as well. Samantha needs to prove them wrong, somehow. She needs to stand up for the only one that would give her a second chance and offer her a job when no one else would. Samantha also needs to hide the fact that her stomach does summersaults whenever Nick is around her; a fact that is unsettling, to say the least, to Samantha. How could she possibly feel this way about a man she despised?
Nick just wants Samantha to trust him enough to tell him the truth. Nick feels she must be guilty. Why else would Samantha not readily defend herself and be honest with him? She has to be holding something back, so he has no choice but to believe what everyone else believes. Then why is the guilt there ready to rear its ugly head over him ruining Samantha's career? The fact that he wants her now, as much as he used to, isn't something Nick wants to concentrate on too much.
PROMISES TO KEEP is a wonderful read! It draws you in and won't let you go until the last page is read. Jacquelyn Ross did an exceptional job with the characters in this story. MS. Ross weaves a tale of suspense with twists, turns and danger that keeps you on the edge of your seat. PROMISES TO KEEP is my first book by MS. Ross and it definitely won't be my last!
