For the past seven years, Jamett ‘Jamie’ Penelope Sutherland has owned her own little coffee shop named I Like You a Latte. She had moved from one apartment complex to another – within the same zip code – two weeks ago and still had not finished unpacking everything. Having already unpacked the essentials, she figured that she probably didn’t need what was in the other boxes. But being a pack rat, she could not just throw them out. In fact, she still had memorabilia from her college days of fifteen years ago. Over the years, she has suffered quite a bit of heartbreak. In fact, after all of the Mr. Rights who have turned out to be Mr. Wrong, Jamie has given up on romance. It has been two years since she was last involved with a man and everything has been working well for her. That is, until the morning she witnesses the breakup of her hunky neighbor and his girlfriend.
Joseph Alexander Scarbrough, who is a jack of all trades, including songwriting, had always wanted to fall in love, but it has never happened for him. The loss of his sister made giving his heart away even harder. He has known his childhood friend Caroline most of his life and she has always had a crush on him. So hooking up with her had seemed like a good bet, but he had not been able to give her what she needed, so she finally walked out on him. His new neighbor Jamie, who had just moved in a couple doors down in his apartment complex, had witnessed the embarrassing moment when Caroline had dumped him and left him devastated.
After seeing her neighbor Joseph, decked out in nothing but a towel, fresh from his shower, going through the scene with his girlfriend, Jamie had been unable to get him off of her mind all day. To make matters worse, he came to her aid when, her hands filled with grocery bags, she had fumbled with her keys at her door that evening. Even after he had tried flirting with her when he arrived home drunk and she helped him in his apartment, she tried to overlook it, figuring he thought she was Caroline. Still she could not help finding him fascinating. But, although he was charming, she refused to fall for him. In any case, Jamie knew that they existed on different playing fields and he would never be interested in someone like her. Besides, she liked the way things were in her life. She had searched for just the right place and had found it and didn’t want to ruin things by getting mixed up with her neighbor. But the next morning, when he came to her apartment to apologize, she found herself talking to him and enjoying it. She had never enjoyed a man as a friend before. Then he asked her out, not as someone he was pursuing, but just because he enjoyed spending time with her.
Should she accept? She didn’t adapt well to change and he seemed to fly by the seat of his pants. She had to be in control at all times and could not bear compromise or surprises. But here was a chance to step out of the box and take a chance on being someone else and doing something different. If she accepted, would she end up with a broken heart, or was this THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD?
A feel good story, THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD, the first book in author Gracie Lee Rose’s JAMETT AND JOSEPH series, is a witty, poignant contemporary romance that you will hate to see end. This sweet, innocent tale takes you along for the ride as life takes two people on the path from friendship to love. Dealing with the choices in life, friendship, family, love, loss and gain, this fun, flirty story will touch your heart and tickle your funny bone. I look forward to reading the sequels to this story, THE ROAD TO SOMETHING BETTER and THE GIFT OF SOMETHING GRAND when they are released. In the meantime, do not miss THE START OF SOMETHING GOOD, which promises to be the beginning of a wonderful series!
