Jesse is the youngest of the three Garahan brothers and between the three they are keeping the family ranch, Circle G Ranch, afloat. Although they work themselves to the bone to keep it going, there is nothing else they would rather be doing. His brother Tyler is engaged to redhead Emily, who lives on the ranch with them and his oldest brother Dylan is now married to the love of his life, a brunette, Emily. Jesse had thought he had found the love of his life, but after Lori left him for the second time, he knew it was not to be. He could not help envying his brothers and longed to find the woman who was meant for him. Although he still missed his mom who died about twenty years ago, having the women on the ranch helped.
Danielle ‘Dani’ and her daughter Lacey were headed to the town of Pleasure where Jesse and his brothers also lived. As a young girl, she had often visited the town where her uncle Jimmy owned and ran an inn and was well known for his delicious pies. He had taught Dani the secret of making his pies and sworn her to secrecy. This would be the first time he met Lacey. Dani had met a rodeo cowboy and when she found herself pregnant, they had wed, although he had tried to get her to terminate the pregnancy. Lacey is the one joy in her life. Her husband had walked out on them, claiming that he needed his space to further his career, traveling the rodeo circuit. Dani realized that she had been the only one in love. Dani and Lacey had almost made it to the small town when her car overheated and a gorgeous cowboy came to her rescue, but she was not in town to meet up with another cowboy. She needed this time with Lacey, hoping to start over, if she can only find a job.
Jesse is floored by the curvaceous blonde, but when he sees the miniature pink clad cowgirl, he loses his heart. Wearing a pink cowboy hat and tiny cowgirl boots, she talks to Jesse and tells him more things about her mommy and herself than her mom is willing to say. She is reluctant to trust him and he knows that Dani has been hurt before, but he finally gets her to trust him enough to let him give her and her daughter a ride to town, especially after her uncle vouches for Jesse over the phone. He explains to Lacey about the Cowboy Code and keeping promises and Dani hopes that this cowboy will turn out to be one she can rely on. Before they part company, Lacey convinces cowboy Jesse to give her horse riding lessons, as horses and cowboys are her favorite thing in the world.
Between spending time at the Circle G with the Garahan brothers and their women and helping her uncle out at the inn, Dani loses her heart to Jesse. But will he love her and her daughter more than her ex had? Can she rely on him not to let them down? When she discovers that he is racing cars on the side, she cannot help comparing him to her rodeo cowboy ex-husband. Will he leave her and Lacey the way her ex had? Can she trust him with her young daughter’s heart?
A heartwarming story, JESSE, the third book in gifted author C. H. Admirand’s SECRET LIFE OF COWBOYS series, is a passionate, witty contemporary romance that will touch your heart. I could just imagine Lacey wearing the cowboy hat and carrying it everywhere. The pink hat was the last thing her daddy gave her before he left for good. I read this story in one sitting, unable to put it down. At times, it left me with a smile on my face and at other times, close to tears. With innocence and an awe-inspiring trust, Lacey, Dani’s daughter, will steal your heart. Fans of this series are brought up to date with Jesse’s brothers, who were the stars in their own books, the first two novels in this series; TYLER and DYLAN. However, this book can be read as a standalone. I know this for certain because JESSE is the first book of the series that I have read. But, like me, I am sure you will be looking for the first two books by the time you finish reading Jesse. Combining humor, passion, childlike innocence, trust, family dynamics, romance and a second chance at love, author C. H. Admirand has penned a winner. I highly recommend this delightful story and look forward to reading more of this author’s works.
