In the course of an interview on local heroes, Chastity makes a painful first impression on local trauma surgeon, Dr. Ryan Darling. Who knew self-defense could lead to a first date? Ryan seems like the perfect man. They have a lot in common, he likes Chastity for who she is, and he is not intimidated by her four older brothers. Why then, can Chastity not help comparing Ryan to Trevor? She knows Trevor is a lost cause. He does not want their friendship to go any further, but Chastity just cannot give up. Will she ever find the love she is looking for?
JUST ONE OF THE GUYS is an extremely likable romance story! Chastity shines as a woman on the search for love. She faces highs and lows through the course of the story. I really liked the fact that she leads a full and fulfilling life, even without a husband or boyfriend. Chastity knows how to have fun and enjoy her own company. She has a supportive family, a job she enjoys, hobbies, a love of the Yankees, and the need to prove herself. I will not spoil the romance for you but there are deep feelings and hurts and regrets to be explored in this story. In addition, there are some small subplots revolving around Chastity’s family that keep this small town story interesting and realistic. Kristan Higgins has a writing voice that is very genuine, robust, and amusing. She keeps the heart in romance without losing focus of her characters or the stories they have to tell. JUST ONE OF THE GUYS abounds with charm and the true joys and pratfalls of falling in love.
