Gideon Taylor had been a firefighter once. However, he had gotten hurt trying to rescue his best friend and fellow firefighter from a blaze they were fighting. Losing much of his flexiblity in the fingers of his left hand, he was reassigned as an arson investigator. He had taken Meghan Wright under his wing during his years as firefighter and taught her everything he knew about firefighting. He also taught her how to love. However, when he began talking about kids and white picket fences, Meghan bolted for the door. She knew she couldn't give him what he wanted for his future and decided to make a clean break, without even giving him an explanation as to why she left.

Two years later while working an arson case, who else would Gideon bump into but Meghan? Not wanting to stir up old feelings, they both try to steer clear of each other. However, they end up having to work closely together as Meghan finds herself receiving yellow roses and mysterious notes from the arsonist. Neither Meghan nor Gideon wanted to fall for each other again, but had their love really been over the first time, or merely put on hold? Would they be able to solve the case before the arsonist got to Meghan? Will Gideon be Meghan's hero, or her heartbreaker?

This book is chock full of romance and mystery and I had to keep turning pages because I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. If you like some mystery with your romance, pick up KANSAS CITY'S BRAVEST. You will be totally surprised at the ending of this great book. Ms. Miller tells a great tale of love and second chances and has also done her homework when it comes to firefighting. This book was educational as well as entertaining. I certainly have more respect for the job after reading this book.
