Hailey Fitzwilly's mother makes her sick. Not that she doesn't love her mom, but she has such high expectations for Hailey that she literally keeps her stomach in a sick turmoil. She is so afraid of disappointing her mother that she hasn't told her that she is no longer working as an ad executive and is not engaged to the doctor she had dated at one time. Her mother would probably have a heart attack if she knew the truth-that she wasn't dating anyone, and that she is a partner in a yoga instruction business.

Roped into helping with one of her mother's fund-raiser's, Hailey find's herself responsible for persuading a local motorcycle mechanic into donating one of his custom cycles. She never dreamed that he would be so...hot, and that she would want more from him than his motorcycle. How could she attract his attention when he liked biker chicks and she was far from being that.

"Kid" Cassidy doesn't know what to think when Hailey shows up at his shop wanting a donation. His sales are down and he doesn't know how he can donate a custom cycle-they are expensive. Hailey convinces him that she can help his sales, and will help out at the shop until the bike is finished. She goes one step further and starts dressing to kill in what she perceives as "biker chick" fashion-knocking Kid's socks off! In his eyes, she is nothing but trouble, but he'd sure like to get into trouble with her! Is there any way they can make their two worlds meet? What about when her ex-boyfriend, the doctor, comes back to town and starts seeking her out? Is what her mother said true, does he really want to marry her now? What's a girl to do?

I was smiling when I finished the first paragraph of KEEPING UP APPEARANCES, and it never left my face the entire book. In fact, I spent much of the time laughing my way through the story. Ms. McKinlay hilariously portrays a common factor most daughters can identify with-living up to a mother's expectations, yet trying to find happiness for oneself. I liked the emotional growth that Hailey experienced, most realistically, by the story's end. If you like to laugh, and fall in love with your heroes, this book just may be the answer for your reading pleasure.
