Duncan's THE BULL RIDER'S FAMILY, BOOK 1 in THE GLADES COUNTY COWBOYS SERIES, kept my interest throughout and it was interesting to get to know the Parkers and the Judds along with Emma and her daughter, Bree, and some of the ranch hands as well. Emma's arrival at the ranch was not what she was expecting and she wasn't exactly welcomed with open arms given the circumstances, especially by her unexpected new boss, Colt Judd. She was very skittish at first and watching her gather her strength to do what she does best - cook - let her professionalism show through. Some of the dishes described and recipes discussed made my mouth water and I could almost taste and smell the food. The descriptions of the setting were full of nature - animals, birds and the beauty of the land - and so vivid I felt I was there. There were also descriptions of the house, the kitchen, the cottage, the ranch and the barn that formed pictures in my mind as I read. There was family and friends, hurt, anger, jobs and hard work, stolen kisses, laughter, tears, heartache and ultimately love which seemed to happen almost too quickly. There was the requisite happily ever after that was heartwarming in how it played out but felt right the way it occurred. Bree was a precious four year old that endeared herself to others quickly. There was nice closure and I know I'll be meeting up with everyone again in future books in the series.
Duncan is a new to me author and I look forward to reading her other books including her next book in this series, HIS FAVORITE COWGIRL. I was surprised though that Ty and Sarah Parker's story told in RANCHER'S SON wasn't the first book in the series.
