Hannah and Benjamin Neilson are happily married with one little problem. All their attempts at conceiving a child have met with failure. It’s been heartbreaking since Hannah adores children but what truly bothers her is the lack of spontaneity and pleasure in their lovemaking recently. She wants more passion and less routine. No more sleeping with her hips elevated and lovemaking you can set the clock by. What she doesn’t know is that Benjamin has the ultimate surprise for her that he and his twin brother Ethan agree will make their birthday perfect.
Ethan Neilson is Benjamin’s identical twin brother and even though they share a home, Ethan is rarely home because of his job as a photojournalist. In fact Ethan and Benjamin haven’t even seen each other in a month, but that doesn’t stop them from sharing their worries, concerns and hopes and it certainly doesn’t stop Ethan from agreeing to help Benjamin gift Hannah with the child she desperately wants – and if he thoroughly enjoys the experience then he’ll chalk it up to the gift that keeps on giving.
On a weekend getaway to celebrate the brothers’ birthday Benjamin intends to clue Hannah in on his idea to indulge in a ménage with his brother and his hope that she’ll finally conceive. What he doesn’t expect is for Ethan to be uncomfortable with the idea of having sex with his brother’s wife – not because he doesn’t like her, but because he’s also in love with her. Approaching Hannah with the whole idea, well, convincing her to have sex with his brother isn’t exactly a conversation he’s looking forward to either.
However, once the three of them sit down and begin to iron out the complicated situation and emotions that have been denied or ignored over the years, they all have to admit that there’s far more to this picture than just sexual interest. Benjamin wants nothing more than for the three of them to be together permanently. But how does one go about changing the life you’ve been living in favor of the life you desire – especially when the outcome depends on the two people who matter most in your life?
THE GIFT by Lena Matthews and Liz Andrews is a contemporary interracial story that holds just as much emotional appeal as it does sexual tension. Right from the beginning of the story there’s a connection between the characters that draws the reader into the story and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you wait to see how the situation will play out. Infertility, low sperm count, and lovemaking according to charts and body temperatures can all be destructive to a marriage but for Benjamin, Ethan and Hannah the stress of trying to conceive could provide them with the greatest gift - a ‘marriage’ between the three of them because it’s pretty obvious that Hannah’s in love with both men and as Benjamin says in the story ‘the twins are one half of each other, only together are they whole’. And no, for those of you with dirtier minds than me, there are no sexual interactions between brothers – just two men sharing one woman.
