Sharon Anne McKee is this year’s Watermelon Queen in her hometown of Last Chance. She and Stony have been childhood sweethearts and now that they are about to leave for college, she has plans for them. Known for being organized, she has a list for everything. She also has a big heart and gets involved in charity events. Presently she is chairing a bake sale and blood drive for Crystal Murphy, a six-year-old girl in town who needs an operation and whose family lacks health insurance. Sharon even turned her thousand dollar award for being named Watermelon Queen to the sick girl’s family. With no plans to marry anytime soon, but big plans for her and Stony once they leave for college, Sharon has even made an appointment with Planned Parenthood. Her mother who came from a modest background although she has convinced herself otherwise through the years, is adamant that Sharon marry a man with a college degree and a future.

Stony had counted on a scholarship for college, but when it didn’t come through, he still wasn’t that upset. After all, he doesn’t consider himself to be college material. Besides, with three siblings, he knows his family cannot afford to pay for his college education. Instead, he secretly enlists in the Marines, which he believes suits him better. Having just received his orders to report to Parris Island in two weeks, he knows he has to break the news to his parents and his girlfriend, Sharon. Stony is crazy about with Sharon. She is the only girl he can imagine spending his life with, although they both feel that they are too young to marry right now.

When Stony lets Sharon in on his news, she is devastated. But the main reason for the way she feels is that he signed up behind her back, not trusting her enough to talk to her before he enlisted. Hearing the news about the servicemen being sent overseas also scares her. After all these years of spending every moment they can together and always being in tune with each other, they suddenly are faced with difficulties in their relationship. But is it too much to overcome, or will their love for each other see them through?

The town matchmaker, Miriam, has never been wrong and she swears that Stony and Sharon is a match made in heaven. But between their current difficulties and Sharon’s interfering mother, are they about to prove Miriam wrong?

A poignant novella, LAST CHANCE BRIDE, the latest in talented author Hope Ramsay’s LAST CHANCE series, is a touching, heartwarming contemporary romance that will have you rooting for the young couple. This novella is perfect for an afternoon’s escape to the small town of Last Chance and, for anyone unfamiliar with this series, it is a wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with it. Fans of the series are once more given a chance to revisit some of the characters from the previous books in this series. It also serves as a prequel to Ms. Ramsay’s upcoming novel, LAST CHANCE CHRISTMAS, which is to be released on September 25, 2012. Filled with engaging characters, realistic dialogue, family dynamics, small town life, the annual Watermelon Festival, romance and young love, this story is one you will not want to miss. I highly recommend it!
