The beautiful and magical surroundings of
Rome at Christmastime could not take away the ugly duckling feeling that Cordelia Brown lives with.  Even leaving the constant reminder of her three beautiful sisters back home in Chicago doesn’t help.  With depression surrounding her, Cordelia takes her tears into a little church to pray for a dream when the scarred man from the back pew hands her his handkerchief.  Finding comfort in the man’s presence, Cordelia agrees to go with him to the Christmas Fair.

Frank McCarthy knows he is a deformed freak.  He doesn’t much like people but something about Cordelia pulls at him.  The more time he spends with her, the more alive he begins to feel.  Cordelia has strong feelings for Frank too, but she wishes she could get him to talk more about his past and the demons that haunt him.  Will the past haunt what future Cordelia and Frank may have together?

For those of you who are looking for a romance that pulls at your heart in every way, LEAVING WINTER is for you.  A story with characters that not only have physical flaws, but some emotional ones too, makes this an outstanding story.  I was immediately drawn in by the pain that both Cordelia and Frank were feeling.  My heart was breaking for them and falling in love with them.  The thoughts from Pam, Cordelia’s niece, help you to understand more of what life is like for Cordelia, and that at least someone in her family truly loves her.  The excerpts with Claire’s thoughts, Frank’s sister, show you a bit of what happened in the past and the terrible demons that haunt Frank and his family.  I really enjoyed Ms. Quinn’s story and look forward to reading more of hers in the future.
