Izzie Silver has her life and career on track.  She’s a full-figured woman who’s made a name for herself as a respected agent in the image-conscious world of modeling, and plans to start her own agency.  Izzie isn’t looking for love, but it finds her when she meets Joe.  A self-made Wall Street wonder, Joe is everything Izzie never knew she wanted; except for the fact that he’s yet to end the marriage he insists is over.

Anneliese’s husband has just left her for her best friend.  Having suffered from depression for most of her life, this unexpected betrayal hits Anneliese hard and leaves her grasping to cope with both her sudden aloneness and her precarious mental health.

At nearly ninety, Lily has a lifetime of memories under her hat.  She’s always been the glue that holds her family together; stepping in to raise granddaughter Izzie when her mother died, being friend and confidant to her nephew’s wife Anneliese.  Now Lily is in the hospital following a stroke, her own health fragile at a time when those she loves need her the most.  But Lily isn’t done yet; swept up in memories and secrets from the past, she still has life lessons to share with her beloved girls.

Cathy Kelly is a master of emotionally gripping women’s fiction.  With LESSONS IN HEARTBREAK, Kelly has once again perfectly captured the strength of the female bond of family, and the joy and pain of both romantic and familial love.  I love how Lily’s past is woven into the present, and how the bond between the women is given its due importance.  This is another gem by a skilled storyteller, and is not to be missed!
