Following his brother’s marriage to the woman they both love, Lone ‘Lonny’ Wyatt decides to leave Colorado behind him and strike out on his own. He’s done the rodeo circuit thing but it’s lost its appeal so he’s at a loss as to what to do next. Since he’s not returning to Colorado he’s hitched a ride to some small Oklahoma town where the streets apparently roll up at dusk because nothing is open.
Charli Kudrow has struggled with keeping her ranch afloat following the death of her husband and years of drought. Sex has been relegated to a mere memory, though there was that one time with her foreman, Drew. She’s determined to stay focused on the ranch and despite the fact that she doesn’t have a lot to offer knows she needs another ranch hand, that’s why she’s offering room and board plus a modest wage in exchange for hard work.
Charli just happened to be in town putting up her flyer at Shooters when Lone showed up. She can’t help but admire him and ends up holding her breath when it appears he might actually be interested in the ad she just posted. She’s stunned when he actually asks her to dance and insists that she doesn’t dance… what’s the point after all? She’s older than he is and obviously hasn’t taken any care in her appearance in ages, but Lonny isn’t taking ‘no’ for an answer and Charli has to admit, it feels good to be held by a man again.
For the first time in five long years of widowhood, Charli feels real desire for a man but she’s not a loose woman and attempts to head home before things go too far. What she doesn’t expect is for Lone to insist on pleasuring her while taking nothing for himself then letting her walk (or drive) away. It’s a memory that she intends to cherish for many nights to come… so nobody is more shocked than Charli when Lone shows up intent on filling the ranch position. Suddenly she realizes that she wants so much more out of life, but afraid to admit to her needs. Lonny doesn’t suffer from such fear; he knows he wants Charli and more than willing to pursue her with everything he has.
Delilah Devlin delivers a scalding romance with her novella LONE HEART. A lonely widow, a wandering cowboy, a protective foreman and plenty of emotionally satisfying moments all combine to bring this story to life in a very sweet and endearing way. I absolutely adored Lone’s honest nature and his seductive techniques with Charli. He’s not oblivious to her vulnerability or her friendship with Drew and is careful to not hurt her in any way. LONE HEART is a touching, feel good story with plenty of sex and the sheer knowledge that happiness can be achieved – all you have to do is reach for it.
For Lone’s brother, True’s, story pick up a copy of TRUE HEART. And if you’d prefer to read your books in print then LONE HEART is also available in the RED HOT WEEKEND anthology along with stories by Lexxie Couper and Jess Dee.
