Laura Draper has a dynamic career as magazine editor. She is working in Texas, trying to launch the first issue of the Texcetera magazine on time. On her way to Austin, she is forced to take a detour through back roads. Somehow she finds herself marooned at a crossroad in "Nowhere", Texas and her whole life turned upside down. She finds herself involved with two crazy ladies who own a run down cafe and some of their patrons, including the handsome Texan, Graham Keeton. Graham is a laid-back guitar-picking local who gets her into the most hilarious situations.

By the time I finished reading the first chapter of this book, I was hooked!  Ms. Wingate infuses her characters with tons of deep emotion and lots of humor. At times the story is deeply touching and other times hilariously funny. Laura is torn between following her life-long dream of being an editor of her own magazine or looking for her roots in small town America. The interplay between Laura, her dad, her sister, her friend and Graham is fascinating and deeply emotional.

This is the second book in a trilogy beginning with Texas Cooking, out now, and the final book is due out in September 2005. I definitely will be hunting the first one to read and waiting anxiously for the last one in the series.
