I've not read a Susan DiPlacido book in a while, but I have been missing some great reading. She certainly delivered everything you want in a good book in LUCKY LADY. Not only was the story a modern day romance, it was full of intrigue, suspense and great humor. How she was able to deliver a blockbuster in so few words is beyond me.
A Vegas show
girl, Sheeri DiPeddi, is convinced her beloved father was murdered. However, no
one, especially her mother Giselle, seems to believe. Just about everyone thinks
that her sorrow over losing her father is affecting her thinking.
matters worse, a knock in the head and the resultant belief that she is the
incarnation of Lucky Lady, doesn’t help either. Engaged to her childhood
sweetheart, Sheeri didn’t need any complications, but trouble just seems to
have her name. What was a showgirl without a job supposed to do especially when
she may be next on the killer’s list.
– what a crazy and loveable bunch most of them were. They all came alive to me,
even the not so nice ones took on their own personas and became living,
breathing people as I read. Could love thrive and grow out of such a motley
bunch and weird beginnings? Marion Mahn is the kind of guy you love and leave,
but he has that look and touch and makes you want to know him better. Cousins,
Eva, Martina and their guys, especially Miguel, add a fiery Italian mix and
sass to the story. Are the rumors of a mafia connection true?
island girl, I know the power of the coconut, and was mildly amused at some of
the happenings concerning this versatile nut. LUCKY LADY became a fast-paced read
after the first two chapters, that kept me up way past my bedtime, but I wasn’t
complaining. After each page I wanted to know what was going to happen next and
even when I kind of figured it out, I wanted to be sure. Of course in true
DiPlacido style I was thrown a loop almost every time. I would love to meet
some of the characters again, they have become my friends, such as Sheeri’s mom
Giselle and the flamboyant drag queen, Dinah Might.
Its funny how
when love comes knocking even the most unlikely candidate can fall victim to
its call. Poor
had no idea how one crazy day could lead to discoveries well hidden, show
others what true love was all about and possible put an end to his roving eyes.
I found the
female characters to be amazing, their strength and power was quite appealing
and yet, when it came to their men – well, you just have to read the book to
find out. LUCKY LADY is one fantastic read.
If you believe
in luck, then LUCKY LADY is for you.
