Shelby Monroe is the art teacher in Bishop, Arkansas. She is the sole caregiver to her mother, who has Alzheimers. Shelby’s childhood was an unhappy one because of her cruel father and the way he bullied Shelby and her mother as a zealot preacher. Shelby has always felt guilty because of the abuse her mother took. She felt she should have helped to keep her mother safer. So when her mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers, Shelby felt it was her penance to take sole care of her mom.

Ty Svenson is a new-comer to Bishop and has an eleven-year-old who he just found out about months before. Ty is trying to make Casey’s life a little bit better than it has been. Casey has a chip on his shoulder and is always in trouble at school. Ty lives across the road from Shelby and her mom.

Shelby has an art barn where kids can come and make things or just spend time when they are having problems. Shelby has never had a relationship with a man except to have casual sex. She doesn’t want anyone to get too close to her. As Shelby and Ty get friendlier, she starts wanting more than she has before.

Shelby was first known in WILD CHILD, book 1 of THE BOYS OF BISHOP series, when her affair with a cookie factory mogul is brought to light and it is all put on You Tube. Trying to stay off the radar and out of the public eye has been a hard thing to do. Shelby doesn’t want to be a part of town gossip anymore, so she decides to stay away from Ty and Casey. Ty has been lonely and was enjoying his time with Shelby but when she shut the door on their relationship, he decided to let it go. But can they ignore their attraction to each other?

This is a good story about trying to take care of a person with Alzheimers while trying to live a normal life. The cruelty of some people and the helpfulness of others make for a good read. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a good romance with all the trials and tribulations of small town life and the kindness of others.
