MAGNOLIA DRIVE is reminiscent to me of books by Dorothea Benton Frank and her LOWCOUNTRY TALES SERIES as well as Francis Ray and her upper class families. Set in the Lowcountry of South Carolina's Sea Islands this story is very descriptive in its telling and the characters are multifaceted in both their depth and emotions.

Alers' MAGNOLIA DRIVE (CAVANAUGH ISLAND SERIES, BOOK 4) has down to earth characters bred in the south whom are polite, respect their elders and are real.  The relationships between friends and family are endearing and the story is heartwarming with all the friendships and love that flows throughout. There are friends, family, laughter, some heartache, romance and love.  Keaton, grew up in Pittsburgh, worked in New York and Los Angeles and is building a movie studio on the Island. Francine, a former actress and native now works in her mom's hair salon and lives in one apartment while her grandmother lives in another in her parent's mansion.  Keaton and Francine have immediate chemistry but Francine is skittish due to events in her past.  Watching Keaton try to break down her barriers was fun to watch while at other times it was heartbreaking.  He seemed almost too good to be true and it was interesting to watch their interactions.  Francine's family is warm but have treated her as an adult since she was a teen. The female relationships play an important part in the story and adds depth to the characters.  There was a happily ever after that happened quicker than expected but did give closure and I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Alers is another new to me contemporary romance author and I don't know how I've missed her books up until now.  I can't wait to go back and read the first three books in the CAVANAUGH ISLAND SERIES and will add the others not yet out to my always growing TBR pile.  I also look forward to reading her other books and reuniting with her Southern charm and hospitality.
