Sydney’s life seems pretty stable. She has a boyfriend she loves, she’s in college rooming with her best friend and she has a steady job. But she still finds herself sneaking away every night to listen to her neighbor play the guitar. Something about him captivates her.
She starts to write lyrics to the songs that he plays, and she sings them while she listens. One day he holds up a piece of paper asking to exchange numbers and he asks for the lyrics that she wrote. She finally learns that his name is Ridge, and as they start to form a friendship, he realizes that he can’t keep what he knows from her any longer. He tells her that her boyfriend and her best friend are sleeping together, and suddenly Sydney’s picture perfect life is shattered. It seems that Ridge is going to help her pick up the pieces, but will he just break her even further?
MAYBE SOMEDAY is a book that takes you through a roller coaster of emotions. Most books in the romance genre are perfect, the characters have few flaws and fall in love and it’s magical. Well, MAYBE SOMEDAY is certainly no fairytale, it’s so much better. I think what I liked most about this book was the fact that it was so realistic, because in real life things aren’t perfect and people can really hurt each other.
Colleen Hoover does a fantastic job with building these characters, I loved (and sometimes hated) all of them. I have always felt that love is too small of a word for such a great feeling, and Colleen Hoover was able to put that feeling into words. I felt the love that the characters had for each other. This is the first book I’ve read by Colleen Hoover and I had no idea what I was missing.
