Even though Mayse’s father has died, she still views the conditions of his will as a challenge. It’s another way for him to try to control her and Mayse will not be controlled by anyone. Mayse does not need the inheritance money but Jayse does if she wants to keep her home for unwanted animals. Mayse will do anything for her sister but there’s no way she can let her father win in their battle of wills. In order to fulfill the terms of the will she’ll marry but it will only be a marriage of convenience, and she’ll have a baby by artificial insemination. There will be no consummating the marriage. She has it all planned out until she meets Brice.
Brice Mallory agrees to marry Mayse but won’t discuss terms until after the wedding. This should have sent off warning flares in Mayse’s mind but she goes through with the wedding anyway. Afterwards she realizes that Brice is not only dangerous to her senses, but he also refuses to go through with the artificial insemination. He’s determined to make a baby the old-fashioned way. Mayse knows that she’s falling for Brice but believes he’s only in the marriage for the money he’ll receive once the will’s conditions are met. Maybe if they ever stop fighting they’d realize they both want the same thing.
Cissy Hassell’s MAYSE’S COWBOY is a story that will have readers eagerly devouring the pages. Brice and Mayse are a really hot couple who fight and love with equal fervor. Neither of them is willing to compromise with the other. Mayse realizes that she’s in love with Brice but believes that he only married her for the money she’d promised him ‘for services rendered.’ This book is fast paced, full of emotional turmoil, and full of characters you’ll want to know better. I’m praying that there will be a follow up book for Jayse. I’d love to know how everything turns out for her. I’m very curious about some things that were brought up in discussions between the sisters that were not fully revealed, leaving just enough to whet my curiosity.
Ms. Hassell has several more books due to be released. You can check them out at her website. All of them look to be just as delightful as MAYSE’S COWBOY. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for them.
