Melanie Trident works as an accountant for Viva Venus, her gorgeous stepsister Venus’ day spa. Unlike her stepsister, Melanie is somewhat plain looking. Venus was Melanie’s only family and took her under her wing. The death of Melanie’s father left her in financial straits so Venus gave her the job with an overly generous salary even though Melanie had been unable to finish her degree. However, Melanie has no social life and lives vicariously through her favorite novel ‘Wizard Heart,’ which she has read too many times to count.
Venus is determined to get Melanie to go to the masked ball with her to celebrate the opening of Club Mirage over the weekend. So she gives Melanie her credit card and sends her off to get herself something frivolous. Though Melanie hesitates, she finally agrees.
When she goes shopping, she sees a store she has never seen before called Madam Periwinkle’s Erotic Delights, which has all kinds of naughty things. Though she is hesitant about buying anything, she finds herself drawn to the Golden Mask of Aphrodite. Thinking it over, she stops into a coffee shop where she meets a gorgeous guy Nic Cheval and she is astounded by his interest in her. This is not something to which she is accustomed and she does not trust it. Running out of the coffee shop, she finds herself returning to Madam Periwinkle’s, where the strange owner already has it boxed up before Melanie even decides if she wants it. She takes the mask home and putting it on, she finds the mask has magical qualities. Things may never be the same again… if only she is willing to risk everything for the man who loves her already.
MELANIE UNMASKED is a very sensual fantasy romance. At certain parts of the story, Melanie reads sections of her favorite book ‘Wizard’s Heart’ and even escapes into the book. Reading her favorite book is her way of escaping her humdrum life and she is soon in for a surprise. This is a delightful novella. I am already a fan of Michele Bardsley’s works and found this story just as pleasurable as her previous works. For an afternoon’s escape, don’t miss MELANIE UNMASKED.
