MISTLETOE MAGIC is a contemporary romance set at Christmas but all was not happy and light.  Rafe's children, Hank and Gretta, had their own agenda and it did not include Melissa. Rafe and Melissa were never on the same page for more than two minutes at a time and their chemistry ebbed and flowed.  They were both very stubborn and never wanted to be the first to say they were wrong.

Patrick's MISTLETOE MAGIC had a nice premise for the storyline but had a darkness to it that I didn't expect.  Santa had issues that he worked on correcting, Melissa couldn't find permanent employment as a teacher and therefore resulted in her holding many part time jobs some of which were odd.  She also lived in a quirky apartment but would soon lose even that.  Rafe's children were often times mean as well as rude but Rafe never saw that side of them even when it was going on in front of him.  Luckily his mom finally called him on it since she was able to put all the pieces together.  Melissa always tried to put her best front on and not give in to her temptation to let Rafe know how his children were misbehaving until she couldn't take it any longer. There was family, friends, heartache, angst, sorrow, tears, laughter, happiness, romance and love.  There was a happily ever after that didn't look like it would happen along with some closure but it ended rather abruptly.

I have not read books by this author before but may give her other romance books a try.
