Jason ‘Jase’ Traub has made the life altering decision to leave the family business but he hasn’t exactly decided what he wants to do or even where he wants to do it. That doesn’t stop his family from trying to talk him out of his decision and they certainly aren’t above meddling in his personal life. It’s understandable that they want to see him happy but having a bunch of marriage-minded women thrust under his nose isn’t the way he wants to spend the weeklong Traub family get-together in Thunder Canyon, Montana. Fortunately he has a plan which involves the cooperation of a young woman he meets while escaping the family for a little peace and quiet.
Jocelyn ‘Joss’ Bennings makes no apologies for running out on her own wedding. Lately she hadn’t been happy with her fiancé or comfortable with the thought of marrying him but chalked it up to pre-wedding jitters – until she caught him in the act of cheating at the church just before the ceremony. She’s spending the trip they’d planned for the honeymoon to rethink her options. She certainly didn’t expect to meet a man who tempts her to let go of her hurt and disillusionment and enjoy being with a man again – even if it is only as friends.
Jace realizes quickly after meeting Joss that she might very well be the answer to dealing with his family’s attempts at matchmaking. If he can convince her to attend the planned events as just his friend then his family will back off. Oh, he’s not stupid. Jace is well aware that regardless of any claims they make to only be friends his family will see them as a couple – and some of them would even begin planning the wedding. Joss agrees to his wild scheme and thoroughly enjoys getting to know his large boisterous family without having to worry about all the emotional drama that comes with dating. What neither of them expects is to discover how perfect they are for each other and they certainly never anticipated the added complications that come with their deception becoming reality.
THE LAST SINGLE MAVERICK is a brilliantly fun yet emotionally charged story that teases the reader with glimpses of the possibilities of a romance between Jace and Joss even before it begins. I love how Jace and Joss’s relationship transcends from friendship to romance despite their efforts to keep things simple. Christine Rimmer does an amazing job endearing the Traub family into the readers’ hearts while bringing the Thunder Canyon area to life and making it a place you’d like to visit. One of the things I really loved about THE LAST SINGLE MAVERICK is how Joss doesn’t cave into her mother’s attempts to coerce her to go back to her fiancé. It’s wonderful to see her standing up for what she wants instead of what would be easiest. Ms. Rimmer’s writing incorporates all the elements that make reading a romance worthwhile. The stories are imaginative yet realistic with characters who live on in your memory – and in the case of series books definitely make you look forward to the next book’s release.
