Harper James, successful divorce attorney, is in the midst of convincing her boyfriend of two and a half years, Dennis, why they should marry, when she receives a phone call from her younger sister, Willa, who informs Harper that she is getting married. This is marriage number three for Willa and Harper feels trouble is on the horizon. That fact is confirmed when she discovers that Willa is marrying Harper’s ex-brother-in-law, and that Harper’s ex-husband, Nick, will be at the wedding. Talk about a double whammy of trouble.

Nick and Harper have a plethora of unresolved emotions between them from their short marriage twelve years ago. When they are stuck together on a road trip across the Midwest, Harper must finally come face-to-face with what she truly feels about Nick. Will it be enough to convince her to take a second chance on the riskiest of all emotions, love?

MY ONE AND ONLY is a pleasant contemporary romance from author Kristan Higgins. Harper is a great main character and made this story enjoyable. She works hard, has a great community of friends, tries to help her sister out of various disasters, and leads a somewhat unusual love life. She is the heart and soul of this book. Her indecisive feelings for Nick are a great cause of conflict in this book and add layers of emotions and tension that are felt throughout the entire story. Nick is an interesting character but he did not make the book as enjoyable for me except when he was just letting Harper be who she wanted to be. MY ONE AND ONLY is a meandering story of love from the beauty of Glacier National Park to the welcoming towns of North Dakota and further east. This is totally Harper’s story and she is a great character to see evolve and challenge herself to new emotional heights.
