My Prerogative

Kelsey is a thirty-something bartender with a penchant for the nightlife and all it entails. Despite her mother’s demands that she get a “real” job and the fact that her younger sister is getting married while Kelsey can’t manage to even date someone for two nights in a row, Kelsey doesn’t really have any desire to change the status quo. She’s happy working in the bar, drinking every night, and coming home to her empty house. If she wants a man, she gets one, and she sends him home when she’s finished. Kelsey doesn’t like attachments, and regardless of what it means for her future, she won’t rock the boat.

That is, until a gentleman who lives in the apartment building across from her starts watching her, and lets Kelsey know that he’s interested. Harlan isn’t like the boys she picks up from the club who are exactly that: “boys.” Harlan is a man, and he knows what it takes to keep a woman like Kelsey happy. He realizes that she needs her space, but knows that he has to push a little to get her to take him seriously. When Harlan finally makes contact that doesn’t involve watching from a distance, Kelsey begins to fall—hard. But is this independent woman who’s used to doing things for herself ready to let a tall, dark, and handsome stranger have the upper hand?

MY PREROGATIVE is an erotic, intense story that kept me engaged from start to finish. Kelsey isn’t like other women. She’s rebellious, pierced, and unapologetic in her refusal to conform to society’s standards. At times she uses these characteristics as defense mechanisms, making her quirks her battle armor. But Harlan sees through these shields to the woman within, and he’s willing to wait for her and work for her attention. Watching Kelsey go from throwing men away like used tissues to falling (against her will) for a strong hero like Harlan was a joy to read. I liked MY PREROGATIVE because it wasn’t your typical love story. There was no boy meets girl here; it was boy watches girl from afar and voyeuristic girl loves it! If you like erotic romance that’s not afraid to take a few risks, you’ll love MY PREROGATIVE.
