Despite the fact that he’s just barely moved in, Lake Carrington has gone all out for Christmas. His house and yard are a menagerie of Christmas decorations and lights. He’s downright handsome and as far as Holly’s concerned that’s the only point in his favor because the early morning Christmas carols are simply more than she can take.
When Holly confronts her new neighbor over his overabundance of holiday cheer she’s forced to admit that she has chosen to ignore Christmas this year and even explains her reasoning. She’s stunned when his response is ‘we all have our crosses to bear.’ It doesn’t seem like he can possibly have any painful memories or troubling issues but Lake definitely has suffered his own painful heartbreak. Lake’s generous nature and willingness to share with Holly could be just what she needs to cancel her little pity-party and see the joy in the holidays – especially with such a sexy loving man.
When I selected this book to read I was expecting a cute, fun holiday tale that would have neighbors bickering over lights and ornaments. I never would have believed that such a short tale could have such an emotional impact on me and have me in tears by the end of the story. Tamelia Tumlin’s NEXT DOOR SANTA will have readers rethinking their attitudes regarding the Christmas season, I know I sure did. Lake and Holly start out as adversaries but it’s soon obvious that there’s potential for so much more between them. This is a beautiful heart wrenching story that I’d recommend to ‘grinches’ everywhere.
