Catherine ‘Cat’ Blackburn is a free-lance reporter since being laid off from her job at the newspaper. Nine and a half years ago, she had married Jack Davenport, who worked for her mother, a government agent with the CIA. Her mother had been against the marriage, and Cat believes that perhaps her mother had been right. Four years ago, she and Jack divorced. The breakup of their marriage had been caused by a number of factors, but one of the main reasons was due to the loss of their unborn child. They had tried to have children, but when it did not seem that that was possible, they had reverted to in-vitro. Cat had become pregnant, but during one of his missions, she had lost the baby and had been left to bury their infant daughter, Lauren, by herself. Cat is still grieving and visits Lauren’s grave every year on her birthday. But six months after her last visit to the cemetery, her house was firebombed. This incident came right after her articles exposing a dogfighting ring were published. The ring included many high ranking individuals, and Cat’s investigation disclosed everything.

Jack Davenport never really got over his wife’s leaving him, so he keeps busy. During their marriage, he had kept silent about the dangers of his job, never sharing that part of himself with her. But Jack had learned to compartmentalize his feelings, leaving behind his work problems when he came home. After all, with his job, he could not survive otherwise. After the divorce, he had left his job, which included Cat’s mother as his boss, taking another job with the government. Even though he had never seen his daughter, he grieved for her. He had never even been allowed to hold the infant in his arms as his wife had. Now his job mainly involves extraction, removing people from hazardous situations and saving lives. When Cat’s house was firebombed, he silently watched her in the background, noticing the inept bodyguard she had hired. Finally, he kidnapped her, taking her to his home in Eternity Springs in the Colorado Rockies. Although Jack has several homes all over the world, this is the one he retreats to for peace when things get too hectic.

Arriving in Eternity Springs, things were peaceful between them, though distant. That is, until he left to help a friend and returned as a different man. Having his friend and partner kill himself in front of him affected Jack badly. Seeing him in pain and empathizing with him, she tried to comfort him. But that ended up in an intimate encounter. So the next day, she left his home and moved to Angel Falls in Eternity Falls, a place known for its healing quality. However, after Jack gets hurt, Cat agrees to keep an eye on him. Soon with the help of some in the warm community, Jack and Cat begin to confront what went wrong with their marriage and explore the misunderstandings between them. Can they mend their broken marriage, or is it too late?

NIGHTINGALE WAY, the fifth book in New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Emily March’s ETERNITY SPRINGS series, is a passionate, emotion-packed contemporary romance that readers will find hard to put down. The woman who runs Angel Falls is Celeste Blessing, who drives a motorcycle with gold wings and has the ability to see deep into a person, finding just how to relieve their pain. Her appearance gives this novel an otherworldly quality in an otherwise down-to-earth story. I absolutely loved this story. Like the other books in this amazing, page-turning series, NIGHTINGALE WAY can be read as a standalone. However, for additional entertainment, I advise also reading the other books in this series. Brimming with passion, humor, delightful repartee, engaging characters, loss, healing, love and second chances, this story is one you will not want to miss. I am a big fan of Ms. March’s work and look forward to the next exciting addition to this series. I highly recommend NIGHTINGALE WAY! Fans of this series will also enjoy getting the chance to revisit some of the characters from the previous books in this series.
