NO MARK UPON HER is the return of Duncan and Gemma but this time as a married couple. The case was not in London so Duncan and his partner Doug were out of their element. I like how Ms. Crombie showed the different level of expertise of the rowers and how it all fit together in the story including Doug’s unexpected insight. Duncan’s uneasiness and his refusal to compromise his ethics shined in the novel as well as the missteps that can happen in an investigation. No one is perfect. It was also nice to see the personal side of the characters because the subject matter was getting to be a bit heavy. The bond that Duncan and Gemma share is stronger than ever and Gemma seems to bring him back from the darker places of the job. I just wish I could have read more about the home life. It will be interesting to see what will happen when Duncan has time to reflect on his life away from work if he will want to still be a Detective or move on.
