A hundred and fifty years ago, a ship named the Gabriella had gone down during a storm in the bay surrounding the town, which came to be known as Angel’s Bay. The twenty-four survivors named the town for the loved ones they lost…the angels that would forever watch over them and their descendants. Since then, there had been many miracles attributed to those angels.

Lauren Jamison’s sister Abby had been fifteen when she was murdered. The murder broke up Lauren’s family. Her mother, unable to stay in the area, took Lauren and her brother and left town. In the meantime, her father, unable to leave the area where the memories of his deceased daughter lingered, stayed in the small town, estranged from his family. Divorced, their mother has moved on in San Francisco. But now her father is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. After a call from his neighbors letting her know that her father can no longer look after himself, Lauren returns to her hometown since no one else in the family is willing to help. Although she had a great life in San Francisco and wished she didn’t have to come back to Angel’s Bay, she returns to the town and the memories she left behind. She hoped to make the visit a short one with as little contact with the people in the community and her past as possible.

Shane is the town’s local bad boy and he had been Lauren’s boyfriend in high school. He had also been the prime suspect in Abbey’s murder as he had been the last one to see her alive. His sister Kara is several months pregnant and married to a local police officer, who has been in a coma for three months after being shot in the line of duty. Kara holds out hope that her husband will come out of his coma before the birth of their child, but things do not look promising. After sufficient evidence had not been found to charge Shane with the murder, he left town and traveled, picking up crew jobs whenever he could. After a stint in Alaska, he received a letter from his sister and returned home after thirteen years away and now has his own boat.

Although Lauren had hoped to make this a quick visit, complications are getting in her way…complications by the name of Mark Devlin, a Hollywood producer. He is once more digging into Abbey’s murder and plans to make a movie about it. Among Mark’s many suspects is Lauren herself, citing that her envy of her sister is a motive. Lauren also finds that the sparks between Shane and herself have not died out. Unfortunately, thirteen years ago, Shane had not been forthcoming on his whereabouts at the time of Abby’s death. Even though this made him look even more suspicious to Lauren, she never really believed he was guilty. Now back in the small town, Lauren and Shane reconnect and begin looking into her sister’s murder. As they investigate, some of the townspeople are more forthcoming than they were thirteen years ago, including Shane. However, there are some who do not want the murder investigation reopened. Will the couple survive to find out who killed Abby? Will Lauren remain in Angel’s Bay now that she is back?
