Once Upon A Baby
By Brooke Wills
Jul 21, 2004 - 5:00:00 PM
Even though she must be close to nine months pregnant Sheriff Simon Blackstone can't help but notice how pretty his next-door neighbor's sister is. When she suddenly doubles over in obvious pain, he jumps into action to help her. He whisks her off to the hospital in his police vehicle before she can begin to protest. It turns out to be a false alarm - this time. Still, the handsome lawman can't seem to get the young widow out of his mind. Even telling himself he has no business falling for a pregnant woman does little to stop the attraction he feels for her.
Risa Parker has a great need to prove that she can take care of herself. During the two years of her marriage to prominent doctor Todd Parker, he'd ruled every facet of her life, leaving her feeling inadequate at best. Now she is widowed, pregnant, and determined to get her self-confidence and independence back. Oh sure, she can't miss the fact that Sheriff Simon Blackstone is better looking than any guy has a right to be, and that the chemistry between them practically ignites whenever he comes near. But she is certainly not looking for a relationship, especially not with a confirmed bachelor.
But then Simon helps Risa deliver her baby and an unbreakable bond is established. Suddenly Simon can think of nothing but how nice having a family with Risa would be. All he has to do is convince her Italian family that he is worthy of her even though he is not a doctor, and prove to Risa that letting him into her life is not giving up any of her hard-earned independence.
