As a teenager, Jack Gannon, who was known as Old Doc Gannon’s son, could not wait to leave his hometown of Apple Grove. He was one of the first to enlist in the Navy, where he spent ten years serving as a Navy medic before being injured in an explosion in the Middle East. He had to learn to walk again and afterwards he had finished up his medical schooling. Now he has returned home to take over his father’s former practice, but he has to keep a tight rein on his thoughts or he finds them wandering back to the days following the explosion as he suffers from bouts of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. In all of his travels, he had never found another town that could compare to Apple Grove and he is glad to be back.
Since their father retired, Cait Mulcahy and her two sisters have taken over running the family home repair business. But her older sister, Meg, has gotten married. With twins and now eight months pregnant, Meg is on leave, which leaves Cait to pick up the slack. Between her busy days working and her evenings spent in her woodshed building furniture, she does not have time for a social life. Her other sister, Grace, longs to leave Apple Grove for the big city, so Cait hesitates to fulfill her own dream of becoming a carpenter and deserting the family business. She is saddened that her sisters seem to be getting on with their own lives and leaving her behind. But when she comes to the aid of Jack, on his first day back in Apple Grove, and a puppy named Jamie on the side of the road, she finds her life changing in more ways than one. She has known Jack all of her life. He went to school with her sister Meg, but she never saw him in a romantic light until she sees him with Jamie. She knows she is falling in love with him, but does he feel the same way? Will she rock the boat if she tells him how she feels?
A heartwarming tale, ONE DAY IN APPLE GROVE, the second book in award winning author C.H. Admirand’s APPLE GROVE series, is a witty, sexy contemporary small town romance that is sure to touch the hearts of her readers. I enjoyed watching the relationship grow between Jack and Cait and the sizzling chemistry that sparked between them. As Jack dealt with his issues left over from his time spent in battle, Cait stood by him and resolved to help him whether he wanted it or not. Packed with witty repartee, small town dynamics, healing, PTSD, a precocious puppy, tender romance and love, this feel good story is one you will want to read and then re-read. Fans of this series will also be able to catch up on the lives of some of the other characters in this small town community. This story can be read as a standalone, but if you find you need another helping of the small town life of Apple Grove, as I am sure you will, you may want to also pick up a copy of the first book in this series, A WEDDING IN APPLE GROVE. As a fan of Ms. Admirand’s work, I look forward to reading the next addition to this series, WELCOME BACK TO APPLE GROVE, which is due to be released in December 2013 and stars Cait’s sister, Grace. In the meantime, I recommend that you pick up your own copy of ONE DAY IN APPLE GROVE! As if this story is not reason enough to buy this book, the author has also included a couple of downhome recipes.
