Jane Aaron, an elementary school teacher, is adopted. Her adopted family owns and operates a restaurant and they could not be more loving and supportive. But she has always wondered about her birth family. She even put her name on the National Registry, but no one has been looking for her. She had been dating Jonathan for two years and when he finally proposed, as she had expected, she surprisingly found that she could not say yes, not without knowing where she came from. So she decided to use this summer to find out some things about them. She knew she was from Cedar Springs, so she decided to move there for the summer. When she broke the news to her adopted family, they were supportive as she knew they would be, but they were also reluctant. They did not want to see her hurt. But her birth family had already rejected her once; she did not see how they could hurt her. She just needed some facts about her roots, her medical background and perhaps, her talents.
Asher Price’s wife has been dead for over a year and a half now, but he still has not adjusted to sleeping alone, although his wife had been indifferent to him. His advertising firm Green, Sutcliffe, Dyer and Price was close to losing the BMW account. It is up to him to come up with something sexy for their advertising fast. If not, they could lose that account, which could be the death knell for his company. To do this, he had to travel to
Arriving in Cedar Springs, Jane signed up with a placement agency, but the only job open was one as a nanny. She was not happy with that position. After all, she was a teacher, not a nanny, but with no choice she went on the interview. However, Jane did not think much of the absentee father who had interviewed her over the phone with just a few questions and later acted as if he would not back her up when she administered punishment by taking away Riley’s phone.
But these children need her after their recent tragedy and not enough time with their father, who is rarely home as he tries to breathe life into his struggling business. So as she searches for her birth mother, she helps these two children to heal and learn to cope with their lives. What she doesn’t expect to find is a romantic relationship with Asher. As she grows closer to discovering the identity of her birth mother, their attraction to each other deepens. But will the discovery of her birth mother and the secrets unveiled in the process destroy their growing relationship? Will she remain in Cedar Springs after the summer or return to her real family? Is ONE SEASON OF SUNSHINE the only real happiness she will find?
ONE SEASON OF SUNSHINE is an emotion-packed, heartwarming, contemporary romance. Up to now, I have only read author Julia London’s historical novels and loved them, but was curious about her contemporary novels. I am glad I decided to check them out. This beautifully written story contains touching emotions, an entertaining plot, realistic characters, explicit details, family interaction, mystery and a delightful ending, bringing this story to life right before your eyes. In the beginning, Asher does not believe that his family is ready for him to get romantically involved yet. But Jane is different from most of the women he has known, and she incites feelings in him he has not felt for a long time. If you enjoy this book, you may also enjoy Ms. London’s novel, A SUMMER OF TWO WISHES, which is also a contemporary romance set in Cedar Springs.
