French racecar driver Daniel Leroux has dreamed of winning the World Rally Championship for most of his life, after a disastrous season with an inept co-driver that dream seems further away than ever. Daniel knows that in order to win he needs to find just the right co-driver. His manger hires a Canadian driver named Frank Dufour who was fired from his last team for being gay. Much to both Daniel and Frank’s delight they work extremely well together. Daniel knows that with Frank in the passenger’s seat they have a good chance of winning.

Daniel and Frank share a deep chemistry off the road as well. However, Frank is off limits. Winning the World Championship is far too important to risk. Racing and romance aren’t a good mix. Together they face many obstacles, everything from inclement weather to sabotage. As their partnership grows stronger so does their attraction. Just as they decide to give in to their feelings, a family emergency sends Frank back home. Can they overcome the odds one last time and find a way to be together?

OVERDRIVE by Ariel Tachna is an enjoyable and exciting contemporary romance. This novel is equal parts racing and romance.

I was intrigued by both aspects equally. Before reading this story I knew nothing about rally racing. Ms. Tachna really makes the world of professional rally racing come alive. I really enjoyed learning about it. The plot held my attention from the first page. Daniel and Frank’s quest for the championship make for very entertaining reading. Their journey is riddled with many obstacles.

Daniel and Frank make an excellent racing team but they also have intense sexual chemistry. Their relationship builds slowly but their growing feelings are very intense nonetheless.  I found myself rooting for them. I wasn’t sure if they would find a way to be together and I couldn’t wait to find out. I recommend this story for anyone who enjoys contemporary and sport oriented novels.
