Beth decides to move to Nashville, with her significant other, John, and try to start a music career for herself. She has made millions from her matchmaking company so she can do what she wants. Beth signs her part of the business over to Jake, to try and get him to break out of his shell and get back into life. Her partner, Gracie Sweet, is posing as his assistant who has been hired by Beth to make sure he doesn't drive the business into the ground. Jake figures he will just run Gracie off, but doesn't know she is really a partner and has agreed to help Jake get into the business. Gracie and her constant companion, Gizmo, a military-trained massive dog, will turn Jake's world upside down making sure he will do as his sister wanted. Makes for an interesting story of personal injury, family interaction and a dog to help a vet get back on his feet, literally.
I laughed a lot during the reading of this book and when they threw in a stalker and the Nashville nightclubs, it brought it all full circle. I am not a big reader of Fern Michael books but this story caught my interest from the first page to the final word. I recommend this novel to anyone who likes reading about perseverance in the face of tragedy and a group of people who conform into an unlikely family. I give this book 4 Blue Ribbons on Romance Junkies' website because of all the new information I acquired of the matchmaking business and military-trained dogs and what happens to them if their handler dies. A compelling story with home-grown characters.
