Alex Moreno is a parking enforcement officer. She does not have the most exciting job in the world, but it gets the bills paid. Things are going pretty much as normal when Alex is called in to the boss's office. She is certain that she is being fired, but is in for even more of a shock when she learns that is not the case. In fact, it seems that she is about to get a chance at working undercover for the FBI. The only downside to the job is that she is going to have to partner up with her ex-boyfriend, Detective Roman Plow.

Alex's assignment is to get close to Miguel Diaz, a man the FBI believes is leading a human-trafficking ring. Things are off to a great start when Alex's car breaks down on the side of the road. It does not take long for Miguel to come to her aid. What starts as a simple flirtation soon morphs into much more, and suddenly Alex is having a hard time keeping business separate from pleasure. Alex knows deep down that Miguel is innocent, but proving it may take a skill she never knew she possessed.

Kelly Fitzpatrick may be a new author, but she shows great potential with her novel, PLEASANT LAKE. It is a wonderful mix of romance, mystery and comedy. The characters are real and the storyline is intensely satisfying. I read PLEASANT LAKE from cover to cover in one sitting. It is just that good. Alex is witty, gutsy and entertaining. I very much enjoyed the conflict between her and her partner, Roman. Add Miguel to the mix, and things get a whole lot hotter. PLEASANT LAKE is an awesome read and I look forward to reading Ms. Fitzpatrick's next book.
