Mikayla Martin is the inopportune witness to a murder.  Innocent and honest, she tells the authorities exactly who and what she saw. However, there’s a problem.  The man she saw has an alibi and is in a position of power.  Mikayla knows she isn’t crazy, but people begin looking at her like she has lost her mind.  Her safety comes into question as Mikayla is becoming the victim of what she calls “pranks.”  She doesn’t want to admit that these incidents are getting closer together and more violent with each episode.  And then she sees him ride into town.

Nikolai Steele, codenamed ‘Renegade’ has come to Mikayla’s hometown as a favor.  He is to get to the bottom of Mikayla Martin’s story and learn why she is accusing a very important man of murder.  With one look at this beautiful woman, Nik’s heart thumps in his chest, and his desire for Miss Martin is almost instantaneous.  But he knows that someone as naïve and loyal as Mikayla would never accept a killer like him.  He figures he can find out why Mikayla is lying and then hit the road.  But something happens to change his mind.  He falls in love.

I have loved Nik Steele since WILD CARD, the first installment of Lora Leigh’s ELITE OPS series.  To me, he embodies the heart and soul of a true warrior.  His loyalty to his team notwithstanding, Nik has always seemed to have it all except for the love of a good woman – and Mikayla Martin’s love is precisely what his wounded soul needs.  Her love is unconditional, even at the risk of her heart.  Nik has no idea what has hit him – he only knows that when the time comes for him to leave, he will have left a part of him behind.

Only Lora Leigh can make me laugh and cry like I do when I read one of her novels.  The connection between Mikayla and Nik is poignant, passionate, and true.  They are truly soul mates.  RENEGADE is just the book I anticipated  for my favorite ELITE OPS operative.  I couldn’t have asked for a better happy ending for RENEGADE.  My heart was truly touched.
