Mary Hannah Gallo works with the Second Chance Ranch Animal Rescue. She helps train therapy dogs for people who are traumatized by one event or another. Mary Hannah made the mistake of having a one-night stand with AJ his first night in town before she knew who he was. She is having a hard time working with him without remembering that night. She has sworn off relationships and is trying to live a nice quiet life helping dogs and human patients. The fact that she is a recovering drug addict gives her special insight into patient problems.
After a very hard rescue of animals from a backyard breeder reveals a meth operation, AJ and Mary Hannah get closer while training a female boxer, named Holly, to socialize with the world outside her kennel. Different sections of this story are written from Holly's understanding of her surroundings outside of a crate. Holly is trying to make AJ and Mary Hannah realize they need each other.
I completely enjoyed this story from both human and animal points of view. I give this book 5 Blue Ribbons at Romance Junkies website. This story delves into addictions, heartbreak and the healing powers of love for man and beast. I recommend this book to animal lovers everywhere and also people who just want to read a funny, soul searching story. It makes me want to adopt a dog of my own, if it were possible.
