Cheryl Peck shares memories that are both touching and hilarious in her second book, REVENGE OF THE PASTE EATERS. The subtitle is MEMOIRS OF A MISFIT, which is even more fitting. Cheryl says she was morose and miserable as a child even though she had a loving family. It is only now that she is well into middle age that she has been able to accept her plus size and everything else  that has made her the woman she is today.

In the introduction we are told that even if we have not read the first book, FAT GIRLS AND LAWN CHAIRS, we will be given enough background to understand who all the author's friends and family are since many have "cutesy" names such Wee One, UnWee, Beloved and Babycakes.

The author also confesses that these memories are the truth as she remembers it and sometimes embellishment makes for a better story. Readers who enjoy David Sedaris's family memories will love this collection. The style of REVENGE OF THE PASTE EATERS is anecdotal, which works well and gives the reader a more intimate look into the events. There are also poems woven in among the various chapters.

As someone who has been through it and can relate, I swear Ms. Peck's take on menopause is one of the best chapters in the book. Her superb comic style is evident throughout this memoir and her quirky take on many subjects will keep you laughing.

REVENGE OF THE PASTE EATERS is a worthy entry in Warner's new 5 Spot line that gives the reader something different from the mainstream or traditional.
