Vicki is sick and tired of being judged based solely on the actions of her mother and older sister and she can’t wait to finally get out of her small town and away from narrow minded neighbors for good. When the opportunity for a dream job away from Rocky Mountain House opens up for Vicki, she is thrilled. The only problem is that the job as a camp cook involves being around horses, and Vicki is deathly afraid of them. She’s not willing to give up on her one chance to escape, so she enlists the help of the cowboy who has caught her eye and offers him a deal he can’t refuse.
Joel and Vicki begin spending all their free time together, and not just in the barn. Although they are enjoying each other’s company, not everyone is happy to see the two of them together. Between Vicki’s self doubts about being good enough for Joel, and the growing tension between Joel and Jesse, soon they realize that they will have to decide if this attraction between them is worth sacrificing their dreams, and maybe even their relationship with their families.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN REBEL is the fifth book in author Vivian Arend’s SIX PACK RANCH series and tells the story of the youngest brother, Joel. Joel has intrigued me from the first book in the series and I was very happy to read his story. Vicki is definitely not a typical heroine, she’s tough talking and has a wicked temper, but she is a perfect fit for Joel and the chemistry between them is explosive. Although Joel and Vicki are younger characters, Vicki felt very mature to me, probably because she had to go through so much at a really young age. As for Joel, one of the most enjoyable aspects of ROCKY MOUNTAIN REBEL is watching him grow and become his own person, one who is comfortable with his place in the world. We also got lots of scenes with previous characters from the series, and hopefully a few hints into what’s to be expected in the future. I really enjoyed ROCKY MOUNTAIN REBEL, every bit as much as the previous SIX PACK RANCH books and I can assure readers that this is a series that doesn’t disappoint.
