Ukrainian born and orphaned at age eleven, Domini Katzinski immigrated to the United States with a church group when she was eighteen. Alone in the world, Domini drifted from place to place, until finally ending up in Sundance, Wyoming, where Domini finally felt like she belonged. Although she knew that she could never fulfill her dream of having a family, here in Sundance, Domini has a great job, her best friend Nadia and her son Anton, as well as many other new friends...friends like Deputy Cam McKay. Cam’s quiet strength and wounded soul draws Domini to him, but despite her attraction, Domini knows that Cam is not the one for her.
Cam McKay had no interest in taking up the family business of cattle ranching. Instead, Cam chose the military, and he was more than content with that life until his tour in Iraq when an exploding rocket took not only Cam’s leg, but his self-confidence, as well. Now Cam’s back home in Crook County, serving as a sheriff’s deputy. These days, his excitement comes from handling geriatric domestic disputes and breaking up his sister Keely’s bar fights. Cam is missing something in his life, but he doesn’t know what. That is, not until meeting Domini.
Despite their mutual attraction, Cam and Domini circle around each other for years, neither one wanting to take the chance of hurting the other. Cam is worried that his broken body is no longer good enough for a woman like Domini, and Domini is worried because she can never give Cam the white picket fence and family that she feels he deserves. When tragedy strikes, Domini is left feeling even more overwhelmed and powerless. Cam is the only one she can turn to, but can he overcome his own insecurities to become the knight-in-shining armor that Domini needs?
SHOULDA BEEN A COWBOY is the seventh book in Lorelei James’ fantastic ROUGH RIDERS series. A wild, sexy and very emotional read, SHOULDA BEEN A COWBOY had me lassoed from the very first page. Cam and Domini are both wounded characters, with all the emotional baggage that comes from surviving incredible adversity, but they are both also strong and determined to make the best of the hand that life dealt them. I loved watching both of them overcome their pasts and work on building a future. I very much enjoyed reading SHOULDA BEEN A COWBOY, and since there were numerous teases thrown in regarding other McKay family members, I am looking forward to reading Ms. James’ next ROUGH RIDERS release.
